Mixed Identity project, 1992-6
Through interviews with other mixed people--third-generation Japanese Americans combined with either Iranian, Scotch, Chinese, German, African, Peruvian, etc.--the project examines each person's identity. Individual garments are a blend of culturally read fabrics that create a visual metaphor for how each person thinks of themself. Along with the garments are books of personal quotes and photographs (Polaroid transfers on rice paper) of nationally inscribed objects or arrangements belonging to each individual. |
