Kevin--Sansei & African American--an authentic strip kimono, ripped at both side seams to evoke an African robe. The garment reflects Kevin's self image as integrated, whole, neither Japanese American nor African American. Possibly because in the African American community where he lives, he is seen as Asian,and in an Eurocentric mainstream he is seen as black.
